About Us

The doors of the Tullahoma Day Care Center have been open to the families of our community for over 50 years. We are proud to have played a part in the lives of those who have been a part of the TDCC family.

Our History

Tullahoma Day Care Center was begun in 1968 by Mr. Ben Wilkins and Mr. John Nicholson of Tennessee Apparel, who recognized the need of their employees for safe, affordable day care. Over time, more families in the community began sending their children and we grew. In 1973, funds were raised for a new building and the Thomas family donated land to Trinity Lutheran Church for the building site. Trinity owns the building and rents to the day care for $1.00/year. Approximately 10 years ago, the building underwent a major renovation, making it a more updated and welcoming atmosphere for children. In the past three years, thanks to an active Board of Directors who fundraise, and many generous donors and grants, we have continued to upgrade the building and provide more learning activities, playground equipment and experiences for the children and families we serve. We want our children to have an environment where they love to learn and are given the tools to become lifelong learners. Included in their education are social skills, character building, play time, and healthy eating.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, we have tax-exempt status and fundraise to supplement the money we receive from tuition.

Meet the Staff

Our staff is truly amazing! Director, Emma Coleman has been with TDCC for over 40 years, becoming the Director in 2009. Working with her are two women who have been with us for 30-40 years, Nita Estill and Patsy Jones, and one new employee, Amanda Collins. Jasmine Coleman recently left after nine years with TDCC, but still works with us on special projects.

Our Philosophy

For working and student parents, nothing is more important than a high-quality facility to care for their children during the work day and prepare them for kindergarten. Walk into our building and you will see a lot of happy kids learning, playing and interacting with other children. We make every effort to serve at-risk and special needs children and adults. We are a non-profit, multi-funded agency serving children regardless of race or national origin. We are excited about starting a new school year with your child and getting to know the families.

Here at TDCC, attendance is very important. Skills taught will be developmentally appropriate with the children advancing at their own pace. Socially, the children will learn how to play and cooperate with one another while learning and reinforcing the manners and respect that have been taught at home. Your child will start to become independent … LET THEM. Your moral guidance, the daily schedule that you set for your child, your help and cooperation with school projects, and the expectations that you have for your child will have a great effect on how he/she will adjust to the center. Regular communication is very important to us. Check your child’s backpack each day and remember they must be brought daily. Always remember to keep a line of communication open with your child’s teacher as well as myself – The Director. Our door is always open and no question is insignificant. We welcome your input and Thank You for entrusting us with your young one.

Meet the Board

Our 19-member board works to fundraise through events, grant writing and collaborating with other nonprofits in our area. The many friends and supporters we have in the community are major drivers of what we are able to accomplish.
